What’s that buzzing sound?
Did someone order a buzzword? The Bannerblog® 360 Trend Matrix™ was in overdrive trying to keep up. ‘Thumb Generation’ ‘User Generated Content’, ‘Consumer in Control’ ‘Blogosphere’ and good’ol ‘Web 2.0’ racked up many mentions, with at least one speaker dropping the term ‘Web 2.5’. Not to be outdone, Mobile marketers introduced agency land to the‘Third Screen’ which I actually don’t mind! Love it or hate it, if it’s the language of clients, you can be sure we’ll be speaking it with them.
Bannerblog Pick: Empty Bottle’s Web 2.0 Bullshitr
Infectious activity on YouTube & Myspace
Many of the digital entries, particularly the viral category, leveraged their campaign on blogs, social networking sites Facebook & Myspace and of course YouTube. As always, it‘s not viral until it goes viral, and results varied. Dove’s Evolution taking home top honors with a Grand Prix and an acknowledgement from the client that the parodies are OK too. Another standout for me, was a viral e-mail from Ogilvy China. E-mail is a tough medium in which to be creative, so I figured this gets my pick.
Bannerblog Pick: WWF ‘Tiger’ Email
Going home with empty pockets
No it’s not a reference to the 10 Euro beers, but Mobile Advertising. The emergence of the ‘third screen’ (Mobile) as an advertising medium was prevalent throughout the seminars, unfortunately examples or case studies were nowhere to be seen. Even the Mobile Category was light on with only 3 winners from a shortlist of 8. Hopefully when a mobile campaign picks up a Titanium or Integrated Lion that will be a catalyst for change.
Bannerblog Pick: Comic Shogakukan Book Campaign
‘The Uploaders’ - Informers of the digital age.
The quality of the seminars was fantastic with the majority being very insightful. One of the best presentations, was Agency.com who presented findings from an ethonography project they undertook in the UK. Did you know, Uploaders represent 8% of the UK population, are young male’s, well educated, have 60 friends on their buddy list and use online review sites 50% more than a typical internet user?
Bannerblog Pick: Agency.com ‘Who Is Driving Social Media’

Bannerblog Newsletter: Issue 3

|
|
Dear subscriber,
November has been a big month for Bannerblog, as we welcomed the first of our advertising partners, Eyeblaster Inc. The partnership with Eyeblaster is a near perfect fit for us, since many of the campaigns featured on Bannerblog were created and deployed through Eyeblaster across the world.
Read more about it here including our commitment to donate 25% of all revenue to charity.
Speaking of chairty Ashley has been growing a moe for the last 3 weeks and there's still time to donate some money for Movember. All donations are tex deductable and the money go towards issues with Men's Health.
|
|
November also saw the introduction the Job Board. Over the past 12 months the site has developed into thriving resource for the creative community and with traffic reaching 40k unique users a month, we figured a jobs board is a natural fit.
We’ve got jobs listed for Ogilvy, DDB, RMG Connect and Glue just to name a few - we even have a position for a Online General Manager at Foxtel.
Still think we’re missing a few bells and whistles? Not Web 2.0 enough for you? Send us your suggestions!

This week saw Bannerblog supply the first of many creative features for B&T magazine's Creative Eye.
Here is the article for those who reside outside of Australia.
We have been busy searching the web for
the best banners out there. There have been some classics
but overall on our internet travels it has been slow.
With all the web 2.0 talk we are on the search for banners
that use AJAX, so if you know of any send them to us.
Top Tip: 26k is fine for a video banners just check out Citroen spin to see how its done.

What banner caught the eye of our editors lately?
|
|
|
|
We've been busy tweaking parts of the site to make them more Web 2.5 compatible. We're looking at other ways to integrate other buzzwords into the site. User generated content, podcasts and blogmetrics are all on the cards.
The most obvious overhaul was with the news section which is now fully archived and allows for user comments.
We've also added two new editors to the ranks:
Eric from Avenue A/Razorfish [US]
Matt from M&C Saatchi [AU] (Who just popped his "banner cherry")
We are still looking for the owners of over 100 banners in our "Unknown" agency section.
Top Tip: If you wanted to get instant cred around the world (Bannerblog is seen but over 50,000 people a month) start an agency called "Unknown" and claim the work as yours! |
